License as a manufacturer

Process for License as Manufacturer under Legal Metrology

• License as a dealer: Legal Metrology has defined particular licenses and application procedures regarding weighing and measuring instruments and devices. These processes may comprise manufacturing, import, marketing and repair of measuring instruments and related equipment. Rules also need a business to perform steady and periodic updates and license renewals towards the Legal Metrology department.

• License as a repairer: Company engaged in performing repairs of weighing and measuring equipment, instrument, and devices falling under the Legal Metrology purview must attain a repairer license. The license requires to be obtained for the respective state where the entity performs its services. The application for obtaining a license as a repairer can be filed using the form and obtained in form LR-3 for the same. The applicant can use the form for applying for the renewal of an existing Repairer License.

Product labels that fall under the Legal Metrology purview need to obtain a packaging and warehouse registration or renewal for goods to be marketed in India. Warehouses where these labels are fixed on the parcels also need to register themselves under Rule 27 from the respective classes of the importer, manufacturer, and packer. ASC assists importers/manufacturers and packers with new registrations as well as renewals of the existing license.
